2011 Ozark Update #11

Both the weather and animals challenged the November tour.  Monday's drive up to Big Cedar looked like it would get very wet.  Those who stayed more to the east may have experienced a slight sprinkle, and those who went up the Pig Trail (23) had a little rain, but not bad.  We should have seen a lot more rain according to the forecast, but somehow it held off to permit some great driving.

The October trip awoke to a sea of fog beneath Mt. Magazine, where the November trip had just the opposite.  The Lodge was encased in a cloud that affected only the higher elevations.  Driving down the mountain, visibility improved dramatically.
The Ozark Café, as always, proved to be a popular stop with the Porsche crowd.  Some of the drivers decided to take it easy after lunch and chose to take more direct routes to get to Big Cedar.  The car wash was clearly defined, well stocked, and accommodated several Porsches plastered with bugs and road grime.

Tuesday's rain not only showed up as promised, but poured all day long.  This was the day scheduled for Dogwood Canyon, and 18 brave souls endured the deluge and Jim's (our guide) spelling of three to five letter words.  The ponchos helped keep us dry, but some of the seats on the tram were subject to blowing rain.  The temperature was also on its way down.

Wednesday was a wonderful driving day.  Two deer showed up where they didn't belong.  The other dangerous animal was the dreaded Missouri squirrel, not the one that that aided the St. Louis Cardinals.  This one ate the knock sensor wires on a Boxster.  The reduced engine power light came on for the trip home.  His deed was punished by the loss of 60 acorns stored beneath the air intake
.
Thursday again was superb for driving.  Those who drove our latest discovery raved about the road.  It offered 50 miles of uninterrupted driving pleasure.  123, likewise, provided the same type of driving nirvana.

First time drivers now understand how difficult it is to adequately describe this trip.  For those who couldn't make it or those who thought of going but failed to follow through, please consider next year's dates.  This is an incredible experience.  Repeat drivers were reminded why they return.
